Hi. My name is Sandra Korshnak, but everyone calls me Sandi. I live in Madisonville with my family (husband, daughter, son, 2 huge puppies, a cat and some fish). I live on the same street, in fact, the same piece of family land that I have lived on all my life. If you visit my facebook page, you will see a lot of these things there.
I started working when I was 14. I followed the rest of the family to the Sterling Inn. We had a lot of fun, but I also learned a lot in customer service and dealing with the public. I was a dishwasher, a bellman when they needed me to, a cook, a baker, a waitress, a bus person, a hostess when needed, and even a weed puller if I had to. I helped my grandmother, who also worked there, make and decorate cakes. I loved playing with the different tips and the icing to see what I could come up with.
I left the inn to go to Specialty Records in 1991. I was engaged, and at the time, it was one of the best jobs in the area. Working there I met Ed. he trained me when I transferred to my new department in 2000. Ed and I got along right from the beginning. We worked together. We could work for 12 hours and not really say a whole lot, but get a lot of work done. We had the same work ethics. We had the same attention to detail.
My love for photography started when I was young. I would go on vacation and come back with 20 rolls of film for a week. After a trip to Hawaii, back in 2006, I decided that I really wanted to pursue the technical side of photography. I wanted my pictures to be better. I bought a better camera. It was a point and shoot, but one that allowed me to control settings. From there I took some classes. I started with landscape, because I didn't want to shoot people. I was done with dealing with customers. I didn't really consider myself a people person. I worked at night, which meant I was home all day. My friends worked during the day, so I brought Ed along with me to complete my lessons. Pretty soon he was taking the classes too. I was soon upgrading my camera and taking pictures of anything I could. We started a friendly competition between us to see who could get photo of the week in the classes. In one of my classes, I was voted "Best in Class" by my peers. That one kind of shocked me, because I thought there were people who deserved it way more than I did. I would take hundreds of shots at my daughter’s soccer games. Those FC America girls got pretty used to a camera shoved in their faces while they played. After a game I would upload all the pictures to their site so they could replay the game. So, I technically am the dreaded "soccer mom with a camera" haha
It really makes no difference to me what my subject is. Photography seems to relax me. I suddenly have a lot of patience when I’m waiting for the sun to come up, or a bee to land on a flower just right, or a child to give me just the right smile. I love working with the kids who come into our studio. When the pets come in, it's not even like work. I just get to play with the puppies!
The next step was to ask myself if this is something I would really want to do. Do I want to deal with people? I don’t think I had to think that hard about it. October 2007, we opened our doors. The rest as they say, is history! Since then, we've been taking more classes, educating ourselves constantly, educating others, and having fun the whole time. I don't know what the future holds for us, but, I'm having fun while I'm on the ride!
